Not a Carnivorous Plant...Yet

Carnivorous plants are awesome, but I think all plants are cool and like to try to grow them as well. I have a few air plants and just noticed the bright colors on this one - wow!

Also, my mom's co-worker shared this fascinating Science Magazine article (thank you!) about a scientific study on carnivory genes. Scientists in Germany sequenced the genomes of some carnivorous plants and compared them to other plants. They discovered that an ancestral genome was duplicated at some point early on, and plants evolved to express carnivorous characteristics on their leaves and traps. I am (slowly) reading through the original paper in Current Biology and it seems to suggest that other plants could have evolved to be carnivorous too...🤔 THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!
